Where they are
Under 14,000 people live across 447 square kilometres here, and restaurants sit where the people do. Madalena has the widest choice, Lajes do Pico has a working handful, and São Roque do Pico has fewer than either.
Between the towns, the coast roads have individual places that are worth the drive and would be unremarkable in a city. The interior has almost nothing: the middle of the island is pasture and volcano.
What to expect
Small rooms. A dozen tables is normal. This is the single practical reason to book.
