hotel · Candelária
Pocinho Bay is on Pico's west coast at Candelária, south of Madalena and inside the stretch of walled vineyard plots that make up the World Heritage landscape. It is close enough to the ferry for easy arrivals and far enough out to be in the currais rather than in a town.

Best for Staying inside the UNESCO vineyard landscape rather than looking at it.
Pocinho Bay sits on the west coast at Candelária, south of Madalena along the shore road. What makes the position worth describing is what surrounds it: this stretch is the UNESCO vineyard landscape, the grid of basalt-walled plots running from the waterline inland.
Staying inside that is a different experience from driving out to look at it. The walls are at their most legible early and late, when the low sun picks out the lattice, and those are exactly the hours a day visitor is not there.
Practically it is a good compromise base. The ferry at Madalena is a short drive, so arrivals and day trips to Horta stay easy, and the island cooperative Picowines is on the way into town. The south coast and Lajes are still a proper drive, as everywhere on this island: see driving on Pico and where to stay for how the coasts compare.
